Abstract
In this paper, we propose a proactive burst assembly scheme for optical burst switching network where bursts are created in such a way that it suffers minimum loss at the immediate outgoing link. The future reservation states of individual wavelength channels are used to construct and update the availability state of the whole link as a function of time. The assembly algorithm, before assembling a burst, searches the availability state of the outgoing link to find out a feasible region of minimum loss and then adjusts the assembly parameters in such a way that a burst of appropriate size can be formed and aligned with the region of minimum loss, with maximum probability. The performance of our scheme is studied under various scenarios and found to be significantly better than those of the existing schemes, currently available in the literature, under almost all load conditions.
