Abstract :
DS-CDMA is attractive for wireless multiple access communications because of its anti-multipath capability and because in a cellular network it allows complete frequency reuse. A significant limitation to the capacity of conventional DS-CDMA systems is the interference produced by other users. A potential solution to this problem is the optimum multi-user detector or its suboptimal derivatives. However, such multi-user detectors are currently too complex to implement in commercial systems. An optimum single-user detector for asynchronous DS-CDMA radio systems is considered and its bit error rate performance evaluated in a Rayleigh fading channel. The detector achieves a significant capacity improvement over the conventional single-user detector for a modest increase in complexity
