Abstract
The variation of air gap permeance distribution is described considering the geometrical air gap. Using the air gap permeance distribution and the air gap MMF distribution, air gap flux density distribution is obtained. Equations representing cogging torque and back EMF (BEMF) are induced analytically. Skew effects of slots or magnets on the above parameters are studied. As a result, it is verified that magnet skewing has the same effects on cogging torque and BEMF as slot skewing and that the cogging torque and the ripple of BEMF are reduced to zero with skewing magnets or slots by one slot pitch.<>
