Abstract :
The characteristics of a three body system, including a modular grid and a ground plane, were investigated. A planar grid with a variable screen density, was used as Body 2, and positioned between Body 1, simulating a charged human body, and Body 3, representing the electronic system under test. Capacitance coefficients were measured; body potentials, energies, and charges were calculated for a variety of conductor arrangements. Cases which were analyzed included a grid which was floating, grounded, and at a fixed potential relative to Body 1. The results demonstrate the possibility of using a system grid to control the probability and severity of electrostatic discharge.<>
