Abstract :
The present study investigated the potential of microwave nondestructive testing (NDT) technique for use in characterization of film for the application in transdermal drug delivery system. Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and loratadine were selected as model matrix material and drug, respectively. Both blank and drug-loaded films were prepared using the solvent-evaporation method. The films were subjected to dimensional analysis, drug content assay and dielectric property measurement using electronic calliper, UV spectrophotometry and microwave NDT technique based on rectangular dielectric waveguide (RDWG) measurement system, respectively. The results indicated that the microwave NDT technique using RDWG measurement system is potentially useful to be used in characterization of high drug load films.
