Abstract :
A combination of synchronous and asynchronous transfer modes (STM/ATM) at a broadband ISDN (integrated services digital network) interface can lead to efficient multiplexing of isochronous and nonisochronous types of traffic if proper access and cell allocation controls are applied. The author examines traffic control at such a hybrid multiplex and presents results on its performance when operating with an access control that regulates the carried load of the blockable STM traffic according to system occupancy. Numerical results are presented
