  • Abstract
    In recent years, area outage cost assessment and studies that relate to this topic have been receiving increased attention and growing importance due to the competitive electricity market environment. This paper presents a methodology of the area annual outage cost (AAOC). It uses the EPRI transmission reliability evaluation for large-scale systems program (TRELSS). It evaluates the interrupted energy assessment rate (IEAK) using a macro approach which utilizes the relationship between the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) and the electrical energy demand. TRELSS is used to evaluate the expected energy not supplied (EENS) of each area. Test results on the Korean Electric Power Company system are included in the paper.
