Abstract :
A complete system-level design methodology of 60GHz front-end for Gbps wireless communication is proposed in this paper. The design specifications of components within the front-end are analyzed and presented according to draft IEEE 802.11ad standard, considering various source of non-idealities and trade-offs among LO phase noise, LO spur, IQ imbalance, non-linearity, and ADC speed and resolutions in CMOS technology. Based on the proposed methodology, a 60GHz CMOS front-end example is given for validation. This work provides RF designers with comprehensive system-level and component-level overview of 60GHz front-ends for Gbps wireless communications on a pre-silicon base.
