Abstract
This paper discusses Human Machine Interface HMI System, OLE for Process Control (OPC) and their roles, coordination and functionality in Industrial Automation Technology. HMI is software that provides a front end to the industrial automation system. It basically consists of components that represent industrial devices e.g. Motors, Pumps, Valves, and Dampers etc. Here we have used OPC (OLE for process control) as an Interface Layer between industrial devices and HMI. Moreover a Database is also required to store process values for components. Special kinds of communication mechanisms are used in Industrial Automation Technology, for communication between End User Workstations (containing HMI) and PLC. A special variant of Ethernet called Industrial Ethernet used for Data communication whereas Profibus is used for communication between Cell and Field area containing industrial devices.
