Abstract :
Shenzhen located in South China has experienced a rapid construction land expansion over the past three decades. This paper focuses on the pattern change integrating remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and landscape metrics. Using Landsat images for 1979,1990, 2000 and 2005 also land use map for 1985 and 1995, we analyzed the spatial and temporal patterns of the construction land for its three counties in Shenzhen. The construction land patterns of each study year were also described spatially and temporally by the landscape metrics. The Result showed that the construction land in the study area had increased dramatically from 19.55km2 in 1979 to 894.31km2 in 2005. The construction land centroids of the 6 study years transferred from southwest to northeast from 1979 to 2005. The patterns of the construction land among the study counties were quite different in different study periods. This study indicated the dynamics of the construction land pattern. The study method can be utilized by the land planners and the urban planners.
