Abstract :
Seatrack Web is the HELCOM (Helsinki Commission) service for calculating forecasts of oil drift in the Baltic Sea and part of the North Sea. It is also used for identifying illegal polluters. All oil combating authorities and have free access to the service. It is widely used which is shown in the logging of occasions of usage. The system includes coupling to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) ship track data base which is necessary when trying to find illegal polluters. Oil spills detected from satellites (Radarsat and Envisat) is also available. Algae forecasts are possible where the forecast starts from satellite detected algae picture.
