  • Abstract
    The intent of this work is to calculate the normal force generated between the stator and the moving cursor of PM linear synchronous motors. The normal force, related to the airgap width and to the cursor position, for different motor configurations, is calculated by using two different methods: the finite element method; and the virtual displacement principle. The theoretical approach and the complete numerical results are shown in the paper
