  • Abstract
A series of three-dimension (3D) finite element analysis is performed using ABAQUS to quantify impact of tire pressure on transverse shoving deformation in asphalt pavement with semi-rigid base. Mohr Coulomb constitutive model is applied to simulate the asphalt concrete (AC) behaviour and linear elastic constitutive is used for other layers. Impacts of tire pressure on transverse shoving are evaluated according to comparison of displacement distributions in asphalt pavement under various tire pressure. It is shown that transverse shoving deformation in AC layers increases rapidly with tire pressure growth in a nonlinear way. An overloaded vehicle with higher tire pressure has more prominent effect on pavement surface performance. Shear-induced damage of asphalt pavement has a high growth rate with tire pressure increase.
