Abstract :
In this paper, the Galerkin method for the initial-boundary-value problem of purely longitudinal motion equation of a homogeneous bar is analyzed. Optimal order error estimates for the approximations of displacement are obtained. At last,a numerical example is provided to validate the theoretical analysis.
