  • Abstract
    The author describes how unprecedented efforts are being made to develop new environmentally-friendly vehicles such as electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles. In this paper, the authors review the current status and future trends for the automotive industry. The role of power electronics as an emerging enabling technology is established. The challenges for automotive power electronics are presented, and some strategies to overcome these challenges are suggested
