The COSMIC 5018 Project was launched to address the need for some key MMICs (monolithic microwave integrated circuits) oriented toward large-volume applications in a wide frequency range (1-20 GHz). The authors review these activities, giving information on the results achieved so far. The general framework of the European Community MMIC activities is also described
