Abstract :
After a structural description of a system has been found, the next step is the calculation of parameters (numbers) and characteristics (functions) of its elements. At this stage, some requirements related to the behavior, characteristics, and properties of the system and its elements have to be met. The author describes ARBDES, a software system that can find a solution to this problem for an arbitrary engineering object. It is assumed that the designer has provided modules for computing the object´s characteristics for every acceptable combination of parameters and characteristics of elements. Three different algorithms are discussed, as well as parallel and sequential strategies for their implementation, the role of the probe analysis, and some methods of incorporating the software supplied by the user
