Abstract :
Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS) methods are useful in the assessment of bone status. Nevertherless, a detailed understanding of ultrasound propagation through bone is important for the accurate interpretation of QUS results. A new PC-based software for the simulation of ultrasound propagation (Wave 2000, Cyberlogic, NY) might be helpful to understand the interaction of ultrasound with bone. We evaluated the validity of this software by comparing measured and calculated results obtained on human finger phalanges. The transverse transmission of a sound wave through a phalanx was depicted
