Abstract :
In this paper we present the design, implementation and deployment of a runtime environment for computational models based on the Eclipse Equinox OSGi framework. The runtime was developed against the background of necessities and tasks in the field of steelmaking, but can be used in other domains also. We will discuss the requirements the platform had to fulfill as well as its architecture and selected technical details. Furthermore, we will present some experiences gained from implementation and deployment as well as from productive operation and maintenance at a customer´s site, with particular attention to the experience with OSGi under high availability conditions.
