Abstract :
A 2400-b/s (bit/s) multiband excitation (MBE) vocoder that attains a diagnostic rhyme test (DRT) score of 90.1 on clean speech is presented. At high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), this vocoder exhibits audio quality comparable to that of the 8000-bit/s MBE vocoder. At lower SNRs, e.g. 0 to 10 dB, the subjective quality of the 2400-b/s vocoder diminishes somewhat in comparison to that of other MBE vocoders; however, intelligibility remains comparable. Spectral envelope magnitude interpolation and quantization are discussed
