Abstract :
A comparative study of different configurations of an axial-flux, 9-phase, concentrated winding, PM synchronous generator for direct-drive wind turbine is presented. 2D finite element analyses are used to find the best configurations. An analytical sizing model is built and validated with measurements on a small scale prototype. An optimization process is used to minimize the total active mass and to maximize the power factor. Pareto fronts highlight the best configuration and design parameter values
