Abstract :
With the characters of simplicity of basic components, locality of cellular automata interactions, massive parallelism of information processing, and exhibit complex global properties, the cellular automata have higher speed and more potential applications than the traditional method of LFSR. The concept of cellular automata is introduced, and the structures and characteristics of cellular automata in contrast of the LFSR from the viewpoint of VLSI implementation are analyzed. The CPLD/FPGA implementation of pseudo-random sequence generated by cellular automata and LFSR (type I, II) demonstrated that that the locality of signal path of cellular automata contributes higher speed than the traditional method of LFSR. So in the form/scale of CPLD/FPGA implementation, cellular automata has more speed advantages than the traditional method of LFSR. In the scale of VLSI, the implementation of cellular automata has more advantages than the traditional method of LFSR.
