Abstract :
Prediction of the seawall foundation settlement is important to the engineering maintenance and disaster prevention. A new method based on the fractal theory was presented on the example of the seawall located in Zhejiang Province of China. The soil consolidation coefficient was inversed by using the layer-wise summation method and Terzaghi consolidation theory, and then the seawall foundation settlement was predicted by applying the improved variable-dimension fractal model. The results can reflect the actual mechanism of soil consolidation settlement, and the proposed method has a degree of applicability.
