Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of a frame synchronisation algorithm suitable for use in a time division duplex link. Frame synchronisation is maintained in the conventional manner by the use of short frame alignment words (FAWs) embedded in the data stream. To facilitate fast initial frame synchronisation an embedded data packet with a long FAW is transmitted as part of the link set-up procedure. The resultant synchronisation statistics that characterise this arrangement are derived and presented
