Five different case-based reasoning tools in various real-world applications are outlined. QDES (quality design expert system for steel products) is used by Nippon Steel; CASCADE (CBR for customer technical support) is used by DEC for VMS user support; ARCHIE (case-based support in architectural design) is used for designing office buildings; CLAVIER (applying CBR to autoclave loading) and SMART (support management automated reasoning tool) used as a customer support help desk for Compaq
