  • Abstract
In the Federal Republic of Germany, considerable efforts are being made to introduce DAB on a temporary basis in channel 12 (so-called parking range). Investigations carried out to date have shown that the concept of introducing DAB in channel 12 is likely to be successful. In accordance with the progress made so far, it will probably be possible to remove any remaining analogue TV transmitters from channel 12 and to start with the installation of the DAB network in 1993. For international frequency utilization and coordination reasons it will be necessary to use four frequency blocks in channel 12 and two additional frequency blocks in band I to ensure full-scale coverage of all the individual federal states with six stereophonic programmes each. Additional regional and local broadcast services are possible. Furthermore, in the event of a reduction in the number of programmes broadcast in the individual states, it will also be possible to broadcast programmes on a nationwide scale
