Abstract :
A study has been made of vector control of an AC-excited brushless synchronous motor. This novel motor has no separate exciter, and the rotor winding is only single-phase short-circuited. The stator winding is excited by a three-phase current, the amplitude of which is modulated by a trapezoidal wave. The excitation current command and the torque current command are estimated only by detecting the position of the rotor. The control method is investigated theoretically, and the experimental results for steady-state characteristics are presented.<>
