Abstract :
By separating the functions of photodetector and modulator, the authors propose a novel resonator-free surface-normal SEED structure with low insertion loss and acceptable contrast ratio. The device is based on the quantum confined Stark effect in GaAs/AlAs quantum wells and can be configured for bistable operation
