Abstract :
In this paper different transmultiplexers for multicarrier systems are compared. Starting from a unified approach to multicarrier modulation using wavelet bases and digital filter banks three different multicarrier systems are embedded in this context: discrete multitone (DMT)/orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), discrete wavelet multitone (DWMT) and wavelet packet modulation (WPM). Then the properties of the transmission pulses are investigated with respect to time overlap, spectral containment and flexibility of channel structuring. After that the performance of the algorithms is described in terms of computational complexity. The paper concludes with criteria in which case it is useful and efficient to apply systems like DWMT and WPM instead of DMT and OFDM respectively
