Abstract :
The consumption of final energy and consumptions of different varieties of energy in Beijing from 1990 to 2006 are presented using data from the China Energy Statistical Yearbook 2007 and Beijing Statistical Yearbook 2007. Energy-CO2 emission in Beijing was calculated by sector and fuel type using the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reference approach and statistical data, and the relationship between energy-CO2 emission and climate change was analyzed. The results showed that energy consumption increased by 67.83% from 1995 to 2006 and the consumption of coal was always the largest. The increase in energy-CO2 emission slowed with the increase in energy consumption. Moreover, the trends for consumptions of different energy types differed from the corresponding trends of energy-CO2 emission proportions. Though the coal-CO2 emission proportion decreased from its 1995 level, coal-CO2 emission accounted for 43.52% of all energy-CO2 emission in 2005. The annual mean temperature in Beijing increased from 2000 to 2006, as did energy-CO2 emission. The trend between them could be described by a one-element secondary regression equation. However, the increase in the annual mean temperature slowed with increasing energy-CO2 emission.
