Abstract
The author looks at how suppliers should specify the performance of products, using process flowmeters as the example. The use of the correct terminology is illustrated and a traceability chain is discussed to illustrate how the performance can be referenced back to National Standards. Such an understanding is necessary before the end user can appreciate the real significance of the ISO 9000 series of standards (BS5750) which many organisations are using as a sign of quality
