Abstract :
For a simple two-level baseband PAM transmission scheme the maximum transmission speed for a different cable length is estimated. When equalization methods are not applied, dispersion is a major range-limiting factor in baseband transmission. A computation technique is described for determining the data rate of a transmission line with known attenuation in a few frequency points. Attenuation data can be obtained by measurements or from cable manufacturer data. The given results can serve as a lower bound in comparison to the theoretical channel capacity that can be approached by complex technology
