Abstract
Engineers regularly use computer models to simulate the systems they design. However, due to the complexity of the processing required, most of these models have been limited to small scale simulations. The increased availability of high powered computers over recent years has greatly improved this situation. The author describes the Advanced Radar Simulator, a detailed computer model developed by Thorn EMI Electronics to model large scale radar scenarios. The design philosophy behind the model is explained, with particular reference to the importance of ensuring that the model´s structure and operation accurately represents real physics processes. Some examples of its use are also presented
