  • Abstract
An attempt is made to study the field emission from quantum wire superlattices (QWSL) and match up to the same from the constituting materials by incorporating the influence of image force. It is observed taking Ga1-xAlxAs/AlAs quantum wire superlattice as an example, that the field emitted current exhibits oscillation and the oscillation manner varies both with the electron statistics and the nanowidth respectively. The field-emitted current from quantum wire superlattice is spiky with larger numerical values as compared with the same from the corresponding constituent materials of the SLs. The well-known expression of the field-emitted current density from bulk specimens of parabolic wide gap semiconductors has been obtained as a special case of our investigation under certain limiting conditions.
