Abstract
Human faces of famous people are often pressed on bank notes, stamps and so on. Mainly, they are made by copperplate engravers. Copperplate engravings have an important property- they are expressed by a set of lines. Our purpose is to establish the method of making a copperplate engraving of a human face automatically from a gray tone image on a computer. We analyze the mechanism of recognition of the engraved human face in terms of an organ of human vision and we use this mechanism to achieve our purpose. First, basic line images are generated from an original image. Secondly, these images are composed. Lastly, the composed image is modified to be close to the original image. For this method, we assume a model for how to recognize the surfaces of a human face in terms of an organ of human vision, and experiment with the method on face images
