Abstract
CIRCSIM-TUTOR, an intelligent tutoring system (ITS), combines both the overlay approach (used to detect declarative errors) and a bug library (for recognizing misconceptions in problem solving). The student modes in most ITSs evaluate the student´s current response and store an analysis. However, both earlier responses and immediate ones should be taken into account. It should also be recognized that students may show inconsistent behavior. Exploring initial implementation of CIRCSIM-TUTOR shows that this is a better approach to tutoring first-year medical students about the causal relationships between parameters in the cardiovascular system involved in regulating blood pressure using complex negative feedback process
