Contracting is a complex decision process that involves the sifting and evaluation of masses of information, culminating in a set of contracts, each of which is a concise summary of: healthcare needs and outcomes; and the work-load for a lot of people over a long period of time. The author describes the use of Ep:Script knowledge base for planning evaluating and testing contracts. EpiScript is a clinically oriented computer language that can be used to describe, separately for each disease, the medical and resource related activities that take place during any healthcare treatment programme.
