Abstract :
The liquid crystal light-valve combines a liquid crystal layer with a thin monocrystalline Bi12SiO20 (BSO) photorefractive crystal. Since the BSO is transparent in the visible range, the light-valve works in transmission and, thus wave-mixing experiments can be performed, allowing optical amplification and slow-light.
