Abstract :
Not all disabled or elderly people are potential users of rehabilitation technology (RT) products and services. The Special Needs Research Unit has developed a prototype model of the disabled population of Europe and the USA (local and national) which takes account of demographic factors. The authors discuss the European rehabilitation technology industry. They conclude that the lack of application of a standard defining and describing the potential requirements of its disabled citizens is probably arresting the creation of a single market
