  • Abstract
An introduction is given to grammatical inference, theory, application and alternatives. Grammatical interference is an important field of research, and it has suffered from the lack of a focused research community. The author discusses what sort of grammars there are and what they can do, then provides a discussion of the types of grammatical inference algorithm that have been successfully employed to date, and concludes with what appears to be the most fruitful future directions.<>
