Abstract :
The Class 465 Networker One train is 81.9 meters long in a 4 car unit and is 2.82 metres wide over body at its widest part compared with an existing Class 415 unit which measures 80.5 metres in length and is 2.74 metres wide over body, though it is 2.82 metres wide over door handles. This increase in length and width, together with the many novel and innovative features incorporated within the train, has lead to substantial, infrastructure improvements, (which have been phased to reflect the introduction of the new trains into service). The author describes how the component parts of the `base case´ railway are the works that must or should be undertaken to permit the Networkers to operate over Kent Link lines and to permit the business to maximise their substantial investment in these high tec trains
