Abstract :
The Building Research Establishment, Fire Research Station (BRE/FRS) was asked to assess the loading and flame characteristics resulting from a high voltage discharge (HVD) generated by the catastrophic failure of electrical switchgear inside a substation enclosure. A series of HVD tests were completed at the Falcon Test Station, Loughborough, UK, using various substation housings under the most severe electrical fault conditions anticipated by the project sponsoring Regional Electricity Companies
