Abstract
An internal arcing fault within switchgear is a rare occurrence, however, if precautions are not taken, the consequences of such a failure will be serious, expensive and possibly tragic. The demise of oil switchgear opened up the opportunity to provide a standard of safety that would not have been otherwise possible. To bring order to the industry, various national and international standards have been produced to standardise the simulation of internal arcing faults for test and verification purposes
