Outlines the technologies and techniques available to those who require a complete vehicle position reporting and display system. The individual location technology and reporting system chosen will depend on the exact application, the reporting rate required and the budget available. The display system is the element that most people see, it is very important as it is the user interface. Many systems succeed or fail according to the relevance and ease of use of the display. The examples given all illustrate how automatic vehicle location (AVL) can tell how one´s resources are performing.
