Abstract :
The present study, by moving window paradigm, investigated the effects of three background colors (black, white, and blue) matched with font colors (five font colors in each background color level) on Chinese text reading. The results indicated that the reading efficiency was better when background-font color matched in the following pairs: white-black, white-blue, blue-yellow and blue-white. And the reading efficiency was lower when black back-color matched with white, red, green, purple, and white matched with red. Finally, the implications of these results on human computer interface design were discussed.
