Abstract :
The initial design concept of electrical supply to Barclays Data Centres relied upon two completely independent incoming mains, either of which would adequately support the center load. Diesel standby was installed to cater for outages affecting both incoming supplies. Some three years ago a review took place from which a successful business case was made to retrospectively install five large UPS systems into four centers. This paper sets out to outline:- research into equipment types, their characteristics and tests applied; selection of equipment; strategy for installation; design constraints and compromises; and conclusions
