Abstract :
Frequency hopping radios operating at close proximity to each other will generate mutual interference, which can be sufficiently strong so that normal operating performance is severely degraded. Quantifying this degradation and evaluating corrective measures require careful consideration of a number of cosite interference mechanisms. ITT has developed a computer simulation analysis program which accurately models these mechanisms. The model is currently set up to run interactively on VAX and MS-DOS computer systems. The interactive user interface is menu driven and allows the user to control and specify a wide selection of cosite parameters. Default values are supplied for most parameters so that users with limited cosite experience can utilize the model. To illustrate the use of the cosite program, two examples of interference caused by VHF hopping radios on a vehicular platform are analyzed. These examples show the need for protective devices, such as hopping filters, and the type of tradeoffs that can be readily analyzed with the program
