Abstract
Over the last few years there has been a steady increase in the availability of tools to support the design and prototyping of user interfaces, unfortunately few of these are able to integrate fully with the rest of the design process. In the early 1980s the Alvey funded Eclipse project developed one of the first second generation integrated project support environments (IPSE) as an attempt to try and solve such difficulties. Over the last few years, the software has been considerably refined and extended to form the successful IPSYS Tool Builder´s Kit (TBK). In this environment, the production of the user interface becomes an integral part of the software development process. Indeed in later releases, the details of the user interface will be maintained within the integrated database along with all the other products of software development
