Abstract
A component-level electrostatic discharge (ESD) test procedure and specifications, developed to provide a means for early evaluation of ESD compatibility of electronic systems, is presented. The steps taken in the development of the ESD component procedure and specifications are reviewed. Three discharge methods and the variables associated with them are discussed. Conclusions are presented based on experimental findings. The required criteria for the evaluation of commercial ESD simulators are discussed.<>
