Abstract :
The authors describe two design procedures in which the FEM has been integrated but for which problems have arisen due to the definition of the reactance components. The design procedures described are firstly for the calculation of the rotor bar impedance of squirrel cage induction motors and secondly the calculation of end winding reactance in synchronous and induction machines
